Zoo Hannover bids adieu to its former animal caretaker in a heartfelt farewell
In a heartwarming display of support and compassion, Saskia, a former zoo keeper, visited the Hannover Zoo accompanied by Sister Barbara, Holger, Steffi, and Daniel. This special day was made possible by ASB-Wünschewagen Niedersachsen, an organisation dedicated to fulfilling the last wishes of seriously ill patients.
Saskia, who is battling cancer, expressed her desire to visit the Hannover Zoo, a wish stronger than her pain. As she was transported to the zoo on a stretcher, wrapped in a starry blanket, she expressed her wish to "smell the zoo air" one last time.
Upon arrival, Saskia was amazed at how much things had changed at the Hannover Zoo over time. She spent a significant amount of time observing the gorillas and lions, her eyes sparkling with joy.
The visit was not just a personal moment for Saskia, but also a chance for the community to show their support. Many Facebook users were touched by Saskia's story and the work of ASB-Wünschewagen Niedersachsen. One user expressed their gratitude for the efforts of the organisation, finding each story inspiring.
Another user praised the organisation for fulfilling the last wishes of patients like Saskia, stating that it was a testament to the power of compassion and community support.
The ASB companions present Saskia with a small, soft plush lion before she returned to the hospice, a heartfelt gesture that added to the day's warmth.
For those who wish to support the ASB-Wünschewagen Niedersachsen's task, donations can be made. Additionally, an online wish request form is available for those who know someone whose last wish the "Wünschewagen" could fulfill. For more information about their work, visit the ASB-Wünschewagen Niedersachsen's website.
As Saskia makes a final trip to Wolfenbüttel to touch the mud flats one last time, the community continues to rally around her, demonstrating the power of human connection and kindness in difficult times.
