Xbox achieves multiple top 10 chart placements as game subscription spending skyrockets in July, yet Nintendo remains king in hardware sales dominance
In the gaming world, July 2025 saw a significant surge in popularity for some of the industry's most anticipated titles. Here's a round-up of the top-selling games and console sales of the month.
The best-selling game of July 2025 was EA Sports College Football 26, followed closely by the EA Sports MVP Bundle (2025). The bundle, which included College Football 26, managed to secure the second spot in the month's sales.
Other top-performing games included Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Minecraft, Forza Horizon 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto 5, MLB The Show 25, Death Stranding 2, WWE 2K25, Elden Ring, NBA 2K25, Split Fiction, EA Sports FC 25, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, F1 25, and Donkey Kong Bananza, which placed third.
The Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console of the month, indicating a successful period for the gaming giant. The lower price point of Grounded 2 might have made it harder for the game to rank above other, more expensive titles, as it debuted at #8 in July 2025 sales and launched in the top 20 this month.
Hardware spending was up 21% year-over-year, with video game spending reaching $5.1 billion for July 2025, marking a 5% increase compared to the same period last year. Video game subscription spending also saw a 21% year-over-year growth.
