Witnesses needed: Inappropriate behavior towards young girls observed at public swimming pool by men
Arrests Made in Sexual Harassment Case at Gelnhausen Outdoor Pool
A disturbing incident involving the sexual harassment of underage girls at the outdoor pool in Gelnhausen, Rhine-Main region, has sparked an ongoing investigation by local authorities.
According to reports by the "Gelnhaüser Neue Zeitung" and other media outlets, the incidents occurred on June 22nd at the Barbarossabad swimming pool. Nine victims, aged between 11 and 17 years old, were allegedly harassed by a group of men in the pool area, where there was a whirlpool.
Four suspects, aged between 18 and 28, were initially detained by police officers. However, further investigations led to the release of these suspects, as the public prosecutor saw "no risk of recurrence" and found no legal grounds for detention on remand. The police are still looking for witnesses to the incidents and have urged any other potential victims to come forward.
The police spokesperson confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with the suspect identification established, including four arrested men, and a fifth suspect reportedly at large and being sought by police.
The case has caused a public backlash, with criticisms of insufficient intervention when the girls first reported the abuse. Both pool management and local officials have faced scrutiny for their handling of the incident.
In response, increased patrols have been implemented in the city, and calls for clearer consequences to improve safety at outdoor pools more broadly have been made. The police are committed to addressing the broader safety concerns at public pools in the region.
The youngest alleged victim is said to be just 11 years old, and the oldest is 17. No further details about the suspects or the victims have been released by the police at this time. The investigation is being led by the Offenbach police headquarters.
The Gelnhausen community is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The safety and well-being of its citizens are of utmost importance.
