Vehicle Interiors to Avoid: Extreme Heat Warnings for Children and Canines in Cars (FW Hannover)

The city of Hannover is currently experiencing high temperatures, with thermometers reaching up to 35°C today, Thursday. This heatwave has prompted the Hannover Fire Department to issue a warning about the dangers of leaving children and dogs unattended in parked vehicles in direct sunlight.

In such conditions, temperatures inside a vehicle can quickly become much higher than outside temperatures, especially when it's over 20 degrees. This rapid rise in temperature can lead to life-threatening situations. According to the Fire Department, a temperature of 46°C can be reached after just 15 minutes in a car at outside temperatures of 20°C or more.

High temperatures in vehicles can cause heatstroke or permanent damage to organs or the nervous system for both children and dogs. The Fire Department Hannover, led by Deputy Head Gregor Fleischmann, strongly advises against leaving children and pets in parked vehicles during hot weather.

In case of an emergency involving a child or a dog in a hot vehicle, the Fire Department and emergency services can be contacted on 112. For non-emergency inquiries, emails can be sent to [email protected].

Raphael Schrank is the point of contact at the Fire Department Hannover for further questions. The official website of the Fire Department is www.feuerwehr-hannover.de, where more information about safety measures and precautions can be found.

The mayor of Hannover, Belit Onay, oversees the overall municipal administration, but specific leadership of the fire department is attributed to Gregor Fleischmann. The Fire Department Hannover's telephone number is 0511 912-1293.

The Fire Department urges everyone to take extra care during these hot days and to remember that a parked vehicle can quickly become a dangerous place for children and pets.
