Unveiling of a fresh healthcare setup
The CUF Barreiro Clinic, a longstanding pillar of healthcare in Barreiro, Portugal, has moved to a new location in Quinta da Lomba, marking a significant milestone in its 80-year history. The modern facility, spanning over 1,500 square metres, houses 26 offices for consultations, exams, and treatments, and boasts state-of-the-art Imaging services, including MRIs, mammograms, ultrasounds, and X-rays.
The clinic offers services in over 30 medical and surgical specialties, catering to the diverse healthcare needs of Barreiro's 170,000+ residents. These specialties include General and Family Medicine, Cardiology, Obstetrics-Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, and Otorhinolaryngology. The clinic also provides specialized exams in Cardiology, Otorhinolaryngology, Ophthalmology, and Gynecological and Obstetric Ultrasounds.
The new clinic, a result of a €10 million investment, aims to respond more specifically to the needs for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and lifelong monitoring in the region. It operates with extended hours, open daily including holidays, and offers a “Consulta do Dia” service enabling same-day appointments for general family medicine and pediatrics on weekdays.
Rui Diniz, President of the CUF Executive Committee, stated that the change of facilities reflects CUF's commitment to the health and well-being of families in the region. The clinic integrates modern medical technology, especially in its imaging department, and works in coordination with CUF Tejo Hospital and CUF Almada Clinic to provide comprehensive healthcare coverage.
The former temporary clinic, next to the 1o de Maio Municipal Market, has been replaced by a CUF Health Centre, which now focuses on primary healthcare services like nursing, dentistry, psychology, and nutrition. The CUF Barreiro Hospital, a new hospital unit on the south bank of the Tagus, is scheduled to open in 2028, consolidating CUF's presence in the region.
