Tragic Accident in UAE: Expat family of five left with loss of parents, infant and two other children remain
In a heartbreaking turn of events, an Indian couple, Syed Waheed and Sana Beeghum, both residents of the southern Indian state of Telangana, lost their lives in a fatal car accident in Al Dhannah City, Abu Dhabi, on Thursday morning, August 7, 2025. Their three children, aged between four months and eleven years, were seriously injured in the accident.
The tragic incident occurred at around 3 AM while the family was traveling from Abu Dhabi to Ruwais. The infant son, Syed Umar, aged four months, is in a critical condition, suffering a severe brain injury and currently dependent on a ventilator. Doctors have indicated that if removed from the ventilator, he is likely not to survive, with near-complete brain death reported.
The couple's two daughters, aged one and eight years, underwent surgeries for their injuries and are currently recovering in a private hospital. The elder daughter is reportedly asking for her mother.
The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi expedited formalities for the repatriation of the couple’s bodies, which were flown back to their hometown in Telangana on Friday evening, August 8, 2025. The funeral prayers for Syed Waheed and Sana Beeghum were held on Friday evening, as announced by Janazah UAE on their X account.
Syed Waheed, the husband, was a cybersecurity professional in the UAE since 2018. Sana Beeghum was also a resident of Al Dhannah City. The couple had been living in the Al Dhafra region due to the husband's work.
The social worker assisting the family has expressed the situation as heartbreaking due to the young age of the couple. Close family members are currently taking care of the children in the hospital.
The process to repatriate the bodies was fast-tracked on a humanitarian basis. The family received the bodies on Saturday morning, August 9, 2025. The crash has deeply affected their extended family, with immediate focus on the recovery of the surviving children.
The Indian community in Abu Dhabi has shown their support and expressed their condolences on social media platforms. Many have asked for prayers for the children of the deceased couple.
