Piglet Slaughterhouse Horrors Unveiled

Terrifying Conditions Unveiled in Thuringian Documentary

A piglet breeding facility in Thuringia has been exposed for its brutal practices, with hundreds of piglets being assassinated daily in the most inhumane ways imaginable. Investigative journalists from MDR have uncovered the shocking truth behind these atrocities.

The Horrors of Thuringia's Piglet Slaughterhouse

What MDR "exactly" reporter Albrecht Radon unearthed is a level of cruelty that's hard to fathom. Radon was provided graphic footage by animal rights activists, who infiltrated a piglet breeding facility in Thiemendorf, Thuringia. The footage shows scenes that would be more at home in a horror film. "Watching it for hours pushes me to my limits," Radon admits.

Revelations from the Thuringia Piglet Breeding Facility

"Workers are killing piglets on an assembly line," MDR-"exactly" reports. A heavy blow is followed by a throat slit, and the animals bleed out. Some piglets endure a desperate struggle for life, lasting over a minute, in the carcass bin. Matthias Schönborn from the animal protection organization "Undercover" states, "This conveyor belt-like killing of piglets on a scale that nobody would have thought possible." According to him, over 100 animals are slaughtered every day in the Thuringian piglet breeding facility.

Shock and Outrage

Such emergency killings are not uncommon in such breeding facilities, the MDR journalist explains. Yet, there are clear guidelines:

  • Animals severely ill or injured with no chance of healing or recovery.
  • Animals with deformities where survival would be associated with suffering.
  • Piglets that, despite intensive care, have no chance of survival due to extreme underdevelopment, deformities, non-viable afterbirths, etc.

These emergency killings may only occur under anesthesia. However, the video material from "Undercover" activists shows many piglets struggling, and it appears that they are very much alive - flagrant violations of the guidelines for emergency killings. "Undercover" suspects that the "surplus" piglets are being killed because they create more work for the operators of the Thuringian piglet breeding facility - a criminal offense, they believe.

Reactions and Investigations

Ariane Kari, the federal animal protection officer, admits she is "deeply shocked by the animal suffering" she witnessed in the footage. She confirms that the anesthesia and killing methods are "completely inappropriate." Kari feels that a criminal offense under §17 of the Animal Protection Act may have been committed.

The Thuringian facility responsible for these atrocities has operated under the Dutch company "Brasus" since 2021. When confronted with the video material, the managing director* refused to comment on the specific practices at the facility, stating only that his company follows all rules to be allowed to produce animals.

The authorities have been contacted regarding the allegations, and an investigation has been initiated. A written statement from the responsible veterinary office states, "We take the allegations raised very seriously and will investigate them promptly and thoroughly. If the footage indicates suspicion of violations, we will intervene ex officio and, if necessary, file a criminal complaint and hand over the case to the law enforcement authorities."

  • The gender of the managing director is not specified in the original text. For the purpose of this response, an assumption has been made that the managing director is a male, as it is traditionally the case in such industries.
  1. The disturbing practices at Thuringia's piglet breeding facility, as exposed by MDR investigative journalists, have raised concerns in the realm of general news, causing shock and outrage among the public.
  2. The health-and-wellness community, being concerned about animal welfare, has expressed discontent over the inhumane conditions and brutal killing methods at the Thuringian facility, as reported by MDR-"exactly."
  3. Crime-and-justice authorities are currently investigating the Thuringian piglet slaughterhouse following the revelations made by MDR and animal rights activists, which may potentially result in legal action against those responsible for the alleged violations of the Animal Protection Act.
