St. Elizabeth Edgewood has been named the top hospital in Kentucky by U.S. News & World Report, a prestigious recognition that underscores the exceptional care provided by the healthcare institution.

The accolade comes as part of U.S. News' annual Best Hospitals rankings, which honour hospitals with "unusual competence" in the full range of adult inpatient care. This year, more than 4,400 hospitals from 49 states and 95 metropolitan areas were evaluated.

Only 13% of the evaluated hospitals earned a Best Hospitals designation, making St. Elizabeth Edgewood's achievement all the more remarkable. The Best Hospitals specialty rankings and Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed for patients with life-threatening or rare conditions who need a hospital that excels in treating complex, high-risk cases.

St. Elizabeth Healthcare, the sponsor of St. Elizabeth Edgewood, operates six facilities and over 172 primary care and specialty practices throughout the Northern Kentucky, Southeastern Indiana, and Greater Cincinnati region. The mission-based organization provides more than $100 million in uncompensated care and benefits to the community each year.

According to U.S. News, the Best Hospitals procedures and conditions ratings show consumers how well their local hospitals stand up to scrutiny in various procedures and conditions. For St. Elizabeth Healthcare, this scrutiny paid off, as the institution ranked as a high-performing hospital in 19 of 22 procedures and conditions.

U.S. News & World Report determines its Best Hospitals Specialty rankings and Procedures & Conditions ratings primarily through analysis of objective data such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications, and level of nursing care. Three specialties (ophthalmology, psychiatry, and rheumatology) are ranked based on expert surveys, while for the remaining 12 specialties, rankings are data-driven, based largely on federal and industry data reflecting survival rates and discharge status among other metrics.

With a 'Best Hospital' recognition, Americans, in consultation with their medical providers, can confidently choose a regional hospital known for providing superior care for their specific illness or condition. For St. Elizabeth Edgewood, this recognition is a testament to the extraordinary care provided by their associates, physicians, and volunteers.
