In the Rhein-Neckar district, a care home in Weinheim was evacuated due to a kitchen fire that broke out on Tuesday night. Fifteen residents were temporarily relocated to an alternative accommodation as a precautionary measure, following the incident.

The fire, reportedly caused by a technical malfunction in a microwave, started in an apartment on the first floor of the care home. Thankfully, the resident of the affected apartment noticed the flames early and was able to leave the apartment independently.

The fire department was promptly called and managed to extinguish the flames quickly, ensuring that the fire did not spread beyond the apartment where it started. Four caregivers and four residents were treated at the scene of the fire, suffering from minor respiratory irritation. Three of the affected caregivers were later taken to a hospital for further treatment.

Despite the building being declared safe by the fire department, the care home management decided to temporarily relocate the residents to an alternative accommodation. The care home remains closed for repairs and assessments following the fire incident.

The care home residents who were temporarily relocated are now staying in an alternative accommodation. The estimated damage from the fire is less than 1,000 euros. No further injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
