Rescuers discover injured mushroom forager, sparking concern in the community of Urbe

In a heart-pounding incident that took place earlier this week, a man named Luca Garavelli, a resident of the province of Genoa, was found safe after going missing while foraging for mushrooms in a wooded area between the city and Sassello.

The alarm was raised in the afternoon when Luca lost his tracks and failed to respond to family calls. The dense vegetation and rough terrain made the search operation challenging for the emergency teams that immediately swung into action.

The search party, comprising firefighters of Varazze, Alpine Rescue, Red Cross units of Urbe and Sassello, Carabinieri, and local Red Cross of Sassello, were on high alert due to the mushroom-picking season that attracts numerous people to the woods in the area.

Operators advise caution during mushroom picking in the woods, emphasising the use of geolocation devices to ensure safety. The increased number of people in the woods raises the risk of getting lost, as evidenced by this incident.

Despite the difficulties, the teams conducted a meticulous search, inch by inch, before finding Luca in good health but with scratches and minor injuries. He was transported to the hospital in a green code, indicating an emergency situation.

The man, who was found with the help of a geolocation device, was thankful for the swift response of the emergency services and urged others to exercise caution while foraging in the woods.

This incident serves as a reminder to all mushroom enthusiasts to prioritise safety and be prepared when venturing into the woods. Let's hope that incidents like these become less frequent as more people become aware of the risks and take the necessary precautions.
