Removal of the ban on American sloths within our establishment

The district of Fürth experienced an outbreak of American Foulbrood, a highly infectious pathogen that affects bees, on 10.04.2025. The state office for health and food safety detected the pathogen in the animals on the territory of the city of Zirndorf.

In response to the outbreak, protective measures were ordered by a general decree on 11.04.2025. These measures were aimed at protecting against American Foulbrood in the district of Fürth.

The District Office Fürth - Veterinary Office, located at Im Pinderpark 4, 90513 Zirndorf, Tel.: 0911/9773-1901, and via email at [email protected], was responsible for monitoring bee colonies in the district.

Following clinically unremarkable follow-up examinations of affected bee colonies, the eradication of American Foulbrood was confirmed. This eradication led to the lifting of the protective measures with special gazette No. 16a, announced on 28.08.2025.

It is important to note that the consumption of honey from affected bee colonies is harmless to humans. There was no danger to the citizens due to the American Foulbrood outbreak in the district of Fürth.

The veterinary authority responsible for monitoring bee colonies in Landkreis Fürth after the eradication of American Foulbrood outbreaks is the Veterinäramt Fürth.
