Refuge emerging for human trafficking victims in Dane County starts to materialize
Zeteo Community Builds Homes and Hope for Trafficking Survivors
In Dane County, Wisconsin, the Zeteo Community is constructing its first two homes, marking a significant step towards its vision of providing long-term housing, healing services, and hope for survivors of sexual exploitation and trafficking.
The Zeteo Community, a holistic healing program, is striving to meet the U.S. Department of Energy's Zero Energy Ready Home certification, an advanced efficiency standard. This commitment to energy-efficient housing is just one aspect of the comprehensive approach that the organization is taking.
Marlene Sorenson, a key figure in the Zeteo Community, described the vision as a model from God. The organization's goal is to help survivors become independent, empowered, and whole again, providing them with a safe space to heal and rebuild their lives.
The Zeteo Community's project is attracting attention from other organizations, who are amazed at the comprehensive nature of what they are building. Richard Sanders, a longtime coach and now a Zeteo Community advocate, believes the program's approach is uniquely holistic and rooted in both trauma recovery and long-term transformation.
The full vision of the Zeteo Community includes a separate community house, equine therapy, a garden, an art studio, and music spaces, all designed with healing in mind. The organization aims to finish construction debt-free, without relying on grants that may be pulled in the future.
However, the community house, the heart of the Zeteo Community's therapeutic programming, still requires funds to complete. The organization is fully funding the first two homes, one designed for women with children and the other for women without children. Construction continues daily, with walls rising and the future of the Zeteo Community taking shape.
It's crucial to note that 80% of trafficking survivors are re-victimized if they don't have a safe place to go and heal, according to Marlene Sorenson. The Zeteo Community is a nonprofit building a long-term residential program for women who've experienced sexual exploitation, offering them a chance at a brighter future.
