Rearranging city center public spaces with new seating areas
In a significant move to combat violence against women, the city of Koblenz has unveiled a new public art installation. The Federal Criminal Police Office's recent report revealed an unfortunate increase in such crimes, making this initiative timely and crucial.
The installation, symbolically coloured orange, is part of the global "orange your world - no violence against women" action. Six benches, each equipped with a helpline number, have been installed in prominent city squares.
The project, which aims to raise awareness, prevent violence, and offer help to victims, has been a collaborative effort. Local government bodies, women's rights organisations, community groups, and clubs such as Zonta, Soroptimists, Inner Wheel, Lions Club Sophie von Laroche, and Rotary Mittelrhein have advocated for this initiative.
Notable figures from Koblenz's urban development, equal opportunities office, and University of Koblenz were present at the official handover ceremony. One of the benches will be placed in front of the University of Koblenz, serving as a visible and lasting contribution to the cause.
The benches not only provide additional seating opportunities but also function as gathering places, fostering conversation and socialising within the city squares. They serve as a powerful symbol of solidarity and support for victims of violence against women.
For more specific details about the collaborators, exact locations, and the intended significance of each bench, we recommend consulting official Koblenz city announcements, local news outlets, or organisations specialising in violence against women advocacy active in the region.
A photograph from the project launch shows several individuals involved, including Dr. Berit Gebel-Sauer, Dr. Andreas Lukas, Gitta Kohnz, Klaus Bücklein, Dr. Beate Reifenscheid, Kim Theisen, Anne Quander, Prof. Dr. Karl Stoffel, Saskia Scherhag-König, Dr. Margit Theis-Scholz, Petra Assenmacher, Iris Kovac-Laue, Verena Wiedenhues, Christine Mohr, Dr. Dorothea Wagner, Christa Kröber, Meike Baumann, and Alice Berweiler-Kaufmann.
This initiative is a testament to Koblenz's commitment to addressing violence against women and promoting a safer, more inclusive city for all its residents.
The installation, a part of the global "orange your world - no violence against women" action, also serves as a gathering place for conversations about health-and-wellness and women's health, symbolically encouraging support and solidarity. In this collaborative effort, many organizations, including Zonta, Soroptimists, Inner Wheel, Lions Club Sophie von Laroche, and Rotary Mittelrhein, have advocated for the implementation of this initiative aimed at raising awareness and providing help to victims.
