Putin offers insights on saving severely ill children

In a heartwarming encounter, President Vladimir Putin met with Archpriest Alexander Tkachenko, head of the charitable organization "Circle of Goodness" - a fund devoted to treating thousands of ill Russian children. Established in 2021, it has become an essential lifeline for children battling severe diseases.

RUSSIA'S COMPASSIONATE HEART

Today, this noble endeavor cares for 29,000 Russian children, from infants to teenagers, coping with 100 different life-threatening diseases. The organization distributes 117 rare medications, ensuring these young lives a fighting chance.

  • Such access to a vast array of critical medications is extraordinary and unparalleled, Tkachenko reported, adding that a breathtaking 511 billion rubles has been spent to date.*
  • That's half a trillion! - exclaimed Putin.
  • Indeed, Russia demonstrates a generous heart. When it comes to saving children, cost is never a deterrent, Tkachenko replied.

REAL-LIFE MIRACLES

The fund doesn't just save lives; it also helps these children regain their normality and fulfill their wildest dreams. Tkachenko shared several heartwarming stories.

  • There's Anya, a 15-year-old from Kurgan. Stricken with hypophosphatasia, she's prone to multiple fractures and frequent surgeries. With the aid of the fund, Anya has returned to sports and even clinched six swimming medals in the last season!*
  • Another remarkable tale is Kirill, a 13-year-old from the Luhansk Republic. Diagnosed with achondroplasia, an ailment that stunts growth, Kirill stands at 128 cm tall. Despite his illness, he exhibits remarkable strength, squatting a 115 kg barbell! Kirill has already amassed 50 medals in his honor, all for Russia!*

EARLY DETECTION

The fund also focuses on detecting diseases at their earliest stages, making a significant difference in the lives of those affected. Beginning in 2023, the organization will begin screening for severe diseases even before the first symptoms surface. In 2022, they screened 1,200,000 newborns, discovering 1,316 children with severe illnesses, ensuring immediate treatment for every case.

VITAL MEDICATIONS

Operating with the motto "all means are good, when it comes to saving a child," the fund has an exclusive reserve of unregistered medications in Russia, allowing patients to receive critical, unregistered drugs within a day in urgent situations.

  • The foundation has also spurred domestic pharmaceutical advancements, as medications developed and registered for their patients gradually become available, according to Tkachenko.*
  • "The quality must match," Putin insisted.
  • "Of course," Tkachenko confirmed. "Doctors and Roszdravnadzor, the Ministry of Health, ensure that all medications have proven their effectiveness."

APPRECIATION

At the end of the meeting, Father Tkachenko gifted Putin an album full of rescue stories and thousands of gratitude-filled letters from parents. The archpriest read a quote from a mother that touched him deeply: "Great is the country where the president cares so much for the children."

  • "Thank you," Tkachenko gratefully acknowledged.
  • "I see the fund's impact and the positive growth it's experiencing," Putin replied. "I appreciate and admire your tireless efforts, as well as those of everyone working with you. We will do our best to support your continued success in saving these precious children's lives."
