Partnering up for enhanced post-cardiac surgery care: Camgenium and Cardiac Tech team up for Pace-Protect System implementation

In the realm of medical technology, a groundbreaking device named Pace-Protect is making waves. Developed by Camgenium, a leading medical software engineering company, in partnership with Cardiac Tech, Pace-Protect is designed to enhance patient outcomes following open-heart surgery by minimizing adverse events related to temporary pacemakers.

The latest developments in temporary pacemaker technology emphasize leadless, wire-free devices that reduce complications and improve patient comfort. Pace-Protect embodies this trend, with its leadless design and wire-free structure, lowering infection risks and enhancing mobility during recovery periods.

The device is equipped with Soft Silicon, an integrated technology that establishes world-class data security for patient confidentiality and high resilience. This mesh architecture for communications uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Wi-Fi, cellular, Near Field Communication (NFC), and Long Range (LoRa) for seamless data transmission.

Pace-Protect allows real-time patient electrogram (EGM) data to be transmitted to the clinical team at high data rates in emergencies, providing a crucial advantage in critical situations. This real-time monitoring and immediate reporting of acute changes to clinicians via a cloud-based platform and app aim to prevent serious adverse events (SAEs).

Research indicates that there are roughly 1,500 SAEs reported each year following open-heart surgery attributable to the management of temporary pacemakers in the US alone. The Pace-Protect system addresses this unmet need for safer temporary pacemakers.

The Pace-Protect prototype has been developed according to ISO 13485 and IEC 62304 Class IIa standards, ensuring the highest quality and safety. Camgenium has integrated its proprietary Soft Silicon medical device grade two-way device communications technology for data transmission into the Pace-Protect prototype, further enhancing its capabilities.

Camgenium and Cardiac Tech are now planning to bring the functioning Pace-Protect prototype to clinical trials. If successful, Pace-Protect will be the first device using a Soft Silicon mesh network to be deployed in a clinical environment, marking a significant step forward in temporary pacemaker technology.

As we await the results of the clinical trials, it's clear that Pace-Protect is poised to revolutionize the field of cardiac care, offering a safer, more efficient solution for temporary pacemaker management following open-heart surgery.

Science and technology are at the forefront of cardiovascular health advancements, as evident in the development of Pace-Protect. Designed to enhance patient outcomes post-open heart surgery, Pace-Protect is a pioneering device that minimizes adverse events related to temporary pacemakers, aligning with the industry's emphasis on leadless, wire-free technology for improved medical-conditions management and health-and-wellness. Once the device undergoes and successfully passes clinical trials, it will pave the way for more efficient, innovative clinical trials in cardiovascular health.
