Sailor Arved Fuchs to Embark on "Ocean Change" Journey in 2025 - Ocean Change Event Approaching: Arved Fuchs Prepares for 2025 Platform

Get ready for an epic oceanic adventure with polar explorer and literature whiz, Arved Fuchs! Setting sail from Flensburg on a vintage sailing vessel, the "Dagmar Aaen," Fuchs and his seasoned crew embarked on a ten-years-in-the-making journey geared towards tackling climate change and safeguarding our precious marine ecosystems. Before casting off, Fuchs chatted with the German Press Agency, stressing the intertwined nature of these two critical issues. With a passion for interdisciplinary collaboration, the project boasts a host of esteemed institutions lending a hand.

The voyage's itinerary includes a tour of the ecologically sensitive Baltic Sea, the North Sea, and the eastern Atlantic, touching base in select locations like Stralsund, Greifswald, Swinemünde (Poland), Klaipėda (Lithuania), Riga (Latvia), Gotland (Sweden), and more, before winding its way through the Skagerrak into the North Sea. Scheduled stops in Föhr and along the English Channel en route to Brittany and Cornwall round out the adventure, with a return to Flensburg slated for late August – as long as Mother Nature cooperates.

Smart measurement technology holds the key to unlocking valuable data

With the historical seaworthy "Dagmar Aaen," Fuchs and his crew are poised to gather data in areas that are under-researched by traditional research vessels. By leveraging cutting-edge measurement technology, seawater data can be captured and disseminated, contributing to a better understanding of our changing oceans.

Since its inception in 2015, Arved Fuchs’ "Ocean Change" initiative has aimed to investigate alterations in the oceans and their impacts on the climate and coastlines.
