Neighborhood Network Receives 100 Climate Bonuses for Regional Currency

In the heart of Germany, the Region Burgwald-Ederbergland is leading the way in promoting sustainable living through its innovative Klimabonus program. Launched to reward CO₂-reducing actions, the Klimabonus operates as a regional currency that can be spent at participating local businesses, fostering a sustainable local economy and community.

Since May 1, 2025, the program has offered specific purchase incentives. For instance, buying a pedelec (electric bicycle) earns 100 Klimaboni, while purchasing an electric cargo bike (E-Lastenrad) or a bicycle trailer brings in 115 Klimaboni each. The incentives for acquiring children's bicycles are also available, although the exact Klimaboni amounts were not specified in the excerpt.

The regional climate fund linked to the Klimabonus also supports educational projects and local climate protection efforts, enhancing overall community engagement with sustainable practices. The municipality of Lahntal, part of the Burgwald-Ederbergland region, actively promotes these Klimabonus reward actions for all citizens to incentivize eco-friendly purchases and behavior.

The Klimabonus program is not just about financial rewards. It's a regional currency designed to promote climate-friendly actions. The more carbon dioxide savings an action has, the more Klimaboni are awarded. For example, buying a new washing machine in the highest efficiency class A has been supported with 40 Climate Bonuses since September 15, 2024.

The Climate Bonus team is actively seeking more local donors in the region and recently held an event to provide information and answer questions about the Climate Bonus. The event, attended by repair enthusiasts, network repairers, and employees of the Climate Bonus Team Region Burgwald-Ederbergland, also included a Repair Café organised by the Neighborhood Network, held on July 5, 2025.
