Since the third quarter of 2024, it's also become possible to register through health insurance apps, requiring a digital identity ("HealthID") from your insurer. Approximately 85,300 folks have signed up via this method.

Now, here's where things get interesting. Nearly 90% of clinics with organ removal powers were fully connected to the registry by the end of February 2025. Authorized doctors and transplant coordinators have been able to check the registry for potential donors under specific conditions since then.

Unfortunately, the feds haven't shared exactly how many donations were made possible by the registry. They're keeping their cards close to their chest on that one.
