Medical institution Uniklinik Freiburg highlights dedicated attention through PflegeStar program
The University Hospital Freiburg recently held its annual PflegeStar award ceremony, an initiative aimed at recognising exceptional caregivers who have demonstrated outstanding dedication and contributions to patient care.
This year, three deserving individuals were honoured for their exceptional work. Iris Danberg from the Department of Gynecology was recognised for her work as a bereavement counsellor, accompanying families through their grief after miscarriages or stillbirths. Her compassionate approach and unwavering support have made a significant difference in the lives of many.
Sandra Audehm, from General, Visceral, and Transplant Surgery, was honoured for her empathetic and clear approach in challenging situations. Her ability to communicate effectively and provide comfort in difficult times has not gone unnoticed.
Petra Demel from Internal Medicine I was also honoured with the PflegeStar award. Demel's patient and finesse under high stress, as well as her dedication to her patients, have earned her high praise from those she serves. This is the third PflegeStar award given at the University Hospital Freiburg this year, a testament to the exceptional care provided by its staff.
The PflegeStar award is not a one-time recognition, but an ongoing initiative at the University Hospital Freiburg. Previous winners include René Ditzel, nursing team leader in the interdisciplinary pediatric intensive care unit (2020), Manuela Löffler, nurse in the stroke unit/Internal Neurology (2021), and Kerstin Gehring, nurse in Neonatology (2022).
The PflegeStar award is given based on nominations from patients, relatives, and colleagues, making it a truly representative recognition of the hospital's exceptional caregivers. The 20th PflegeStar award was presented at the University Hospital Freiburg, in celebration of the outstanding work of its nursing staff.
