In Hung Yen Province, authorities are making significant strides in combating the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak. Over the past few months, the disease has been reported in 149 households across 32 communes and wards, resulting in the culling of more than 3,600 pigs, amounting to over 200 tons.

To tackle the crisis, various measures have been implemented. Communes across the province are disinfecting barns, restricting farm entry, and advising farmers to boost animal nutrition. The 'four on the spot' principle is being followed in Diep Ha Commune, ensuring that command, manpower, equipment, and funding are handled locally.

Veterinary teams are visiting households, supervising culling and disinfection, and guiding farmers on biosecurity. Diep Ha Commune, home to nearly 62,000 pigs, has confirmed 17 outbreaks and culled over 360 pigs. The 'five nos' rule has been instrumental in controlling ASF outbreaks within households instead of villages.

Communication has been crucial in Diep Ha Commune, as it encourages early reporting and quick action. Farmer Luong Van Linh in Kim Son 2 village lost 8 sows and 32 piglets due to ASF, but the early reporting and swift action prevented the disease from spreading further in his community.

The province is maintaining vigilance to prevent a reversal of the gains against ASF. Fourteen communes in Hung Yen have gone 21 days without new ASF cases, a promising sign of progress. Over 28,000 litres of disinfectant have been distributed to communes in the province to support the fight against ASF.

Hundreds of tons of lime have been spread by farmers around barns in the province, further aiding in disinfection efforts. Diep Ha Commune set up three task forces for outreach, surveillance, and culling.

However, challenges remain. Many pig carcass burial sites are full, raising concerns about disposal during larger outbreaks. The search results do not contain information about the organization or person that provided the disinfectant to communities in Hung Yen Province to support the fight against ASF.

Despite these challenges, the ASF outbreak underscores the importance of timely reporting and community cooperation for containment. Instead of concealing the outbreak, local farmers like Liang immediately notified local authorities, allowing for quick action to be taken. Liang's pig herd loss resulted in a financial loss of hundreds of millions of dong, but his quick reporting likely saved many other farms from a similar fate.

As Hung Yen Province continues to fight the ASF outbreak, the authorities remain committed to ensuring the health and safety of the province's pig population. The province is hopeful that with continued vigilance and cooperation, the ASF outbreak can be fully contained in the near future.
