Leukemia claimed the life of Potofski.
Ulli Potofski, a well-known sports presenter, passed away on August 3rd at the age of 73. His family confirmed that the cause of death was leukemia.
Potofski's lifelong affection for Schalke 04, his favorite team, was evident in his final wishes. He requested to be buried on the "Schalke Fan Field", a significant location two kilometers from the arena. The "Schalke Fan Field" is a tribute to the club's dedicated supporters and holds a special place in Potofski's heart.
Potofski's health began to deteriorate earlier that spring when he suddenly lost weight. He was diagnosed with leukemia in mid-May after a blood test, and immediately began chemotherapy. A matching bone marrow donor was found, but the transplant was postponed due to the donor being on vacation. A new date for the transplant was set for mid-August. However, Potofski's health did not improve, and he passed away before the transplant could take place.
Potofski's partner, Nadja Bogdanovic, was by his side throughout his illness. Upon his return from the hospital, Potofski took Schalke hand towels, in the club's blue and white colors, as a symbol of his continued support for the team.
The exact date for Potofski's burial on the "Schalke Fan Field" has not yet been announced. As a tribute to Potofski's contributions to sports broadcasting and his lifelong support for Schalke 04, fans and colleagues alike are encouraged to remember his legacy and the impact he had on the world of sports.
