Richard Silverstein: A Life of Advocacy and Kindness

Richard Silverstein, a prominent journalist and blogger, passed away on July 31, 2025, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, six weeks before the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941, Silverstein spent his formative years attending the Punahou School from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Silverstein's career was marked by critical commentary on Israeli policies and advocacy for Palestinian perspectives. He was known for his investigative work and opinion pieces that challenged conventional media coverage, particularly regarding the Israeli government and its actions in Gaza and the West Bank.

Born in 1941, Silverstein attended the University of Montana, where he graduated with a degree in political science. He later completed his law degree there. After serving in the Army Signal Corp from 1966 to 1968, including a year in Vietnam, Silverstein practiced law in Vietnam and earned a Bronze Star.

Silverstein was a resident of Denver, CO, where he settled after his military service and raised a family of boys and dogs. Professionally, he made those he served in his law practice feel comfortable and supported. He had a natural inclination towards volunteering and dedicated a significant amount of his time to his children and grandchildren.

Richard Silverstein was a wise and self-effacing gentleman, known for his quirky sense of humor and kindness. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jan, their two sons Brock and Justin, three grandchildren Cooper, Colton, and Chloe, and his younger brother Bob.

A celebration of life will be held at the Denver Botanic Gardens at 5pm, August 29, with a Hawaiian theme and no charge for admission. Silverstein suggested donations be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and The Grey Muzzle Organization.

Silverstein's contributions to geopolitical discourse concerning Israel and Palestine will be remembered, as will his kindness and compassion. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the wider community.

In a world where technology advancements are shaping our discourse, Richard Silverstein's six-decade-long advocacy stood as a testament to the power of neuerological-disorders, such as Parkinson's Disease, serving as a reminder of the resilience in the face of health-and-wellness challenges. Amidst his notable career in journalism and law, he exhibited a profound understanding of science, particularly in his advocacy for medical-conditions. Despite his various accomplishments, it was his kindness and empathy that defined Silverstein's legacy, extending beyond geopolitical borders and affecting anyone who crossed his path.
