IGAS denies connection between the demise of a sales representative and the strike action by INEM

INvestigation Concludes: No Direct Link Found Between INEM Strike and Patient Death

The General Health Activities Inspectorate (IGAS) in Spain has concluded its investigation into the death of a 73-year-old patient from Vendas Novas, Évora district, following the INEM (Instituto Nacional de Emergencias Médicas) technicians' strike at the end of 2024.

The investigation, which was initiated on May 27, focused on the response by the Emergency Medical Services (INEM) Urgent Patient Orientation Center (CODU) following the patient's death. However, the report released by IGAS on Friday states that no direct link was found between the patient's death and the INEM technicians' strike.

The investigation was carried out at the location of the incident, the INEM's Urgent Patient Orientation Center (CODU). The report was also sent to the INEM's Board of Directors, the Ministry of Health, the Board of Administration of the Central Alentejo Local Health Unit, and the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The Public Prosecutor's Office has six investigations underway into deaths that occurred during the INEM strike. One of these investigations is ongoing in the Montemor-o-Novo Judicial District. The INEM technicians' strike, which began on October 30 and was suspended on November 7, coincided with a general public administration strike on November 4.

IGAS has also concluded investigations into seven of the 12 deaths recorded during the INEM technicians' strike during overtime hours. The report was also sent to the Public Prosecutor's Office for further investigation.

It is important to note that the INEM technicians' strike was a result of emergency medical personnel demanding better working conditions and resources. Concerns about the impact on emergency response capacity and patient outcomes during such strikes are common. However, specific documented cases of deaths and official investigations by oversight bodies like IGAS or Public Prosecutor's inquiries would typically be reported in official government statements or credible news outlets.

For accurate and updated information on this matter, it would be necessary to consult official reports from the Spanish health ministry, IGAS, or judicial sources, as well as reputable news agencies covering healthcare and labor disputes in Spain.

  1. Despite the investigation focused on the INEM technicians' strike and its potential impact on health-and-wellness, the General Health Activities Inspectorate (IGAS) report did not find a direct link between the strike and the patient's death in Vendas Novas.
  2. Amidst the investigations into seven medical-conditions related deaths during the INEM technicians' strike, the Public Prosecutor's Office in Montemor-o-Novo is currently probing one of these cases.
  3. In the realm of politics and labor disputes, the INEM technicians' strike was sparked by demands for improved working conditions and resources in the science-based field of emergency medicine, raising questions about the implications for health-and-wellness and general-news.
