Hearing technology alliance pushes boundaries in connectivity: Cochlear and GN pioneer Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast implementation in dual-mode release

In a groundbreaking development, the Smart Hearing Alliance, a collaboration between Cochlear and GN Hearing, has introduced the first-time use of Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast in bimodal hearing solutions. This integration marks a significant advancement in hearing technology, enhancing user experience and accessibility.

ReSound Nexia, the flagship hearing aid range from GN Hearing, including models like the ReSound Enzo IA and Vivia, is among the first to adopt Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast technologies. These advancements allow direct streaming from compatible devices and access to broadcast audio programs via Auracast. The hearing aids support MultiConnect, enabling simultaneous pairing with two smart devices, hands-free calls, and remote fine-tuning through apps like ReSound Smart 3D.

Auracast, a revolutionary technology, enables a single source device (such as a smartphone) to stream audio to multiple receivers (hearing aids, earbuds, speakers), facilitating group listening and more seamless sharing of audio.

Cochlear Baha 7, bone-anchored hearing aids designed to treat conductive and mixed hearing loss or single-sided deafness, are also part of this innovative integration. While specific public details on Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast integration with Baha 7 are less clear, Cochlear's newer devices are progressively incorporating enhanced Bluetooth streaming features.

Bimodal fittings, involving the use of a cochlear implant or bone conduction device in one ear and a hearing aid in the other, now benefit from synchronized, low-latency, high-quality streams to both devices. This improvement in sound clarity, speech comprehension, and user convenience is particularly significant in various listening environments.

The combination of Cochlear Baha 7 and ReSound Nexia with LE Audio and Auracast is groundbreaking because it enables bimodal users to leverage next-generation Bluetooth features like multi-device connections, broadcast audio, and remote adjustments. This integration makes hearing solutions more integrated and technologically advanced than earlier wireless standards.

ReSound and Beltone, owned by GN Hearing and based in Münster, Germany, are leading hearing aid brands that shape innovations in modern hearing systems. They are present in over 80 countries, with a large team of competent employees and numerous technology centres.

Cochlear, the global leader in implantable hearing solutions, employs over 4,800 people worldwide and invests heavily in research and development. The company, founded by Professor Graeme Clark, has provided over 750,000 hearing solutions in 180 countries.

Approximately 72 million people worldwide could potentially benefit from a hearing solution from the Smart Hearing Alliance. With this latest integration, Cochlear and GN Hearing continue to push the boundaries of hearing technology, enabling active and fulfilling lives for people with hearing loss.
