The Thai government has announced the launch of a new initiative aimed at improving the quality of life for cancer patients by providing free transport services. This measure is part of an ongoing effort to increase access to advanced cancer treatments for those facing financial hardship due to interprovincial travel expenses.

Under the National Health Security Board's "gold card" universal coverage programme, operated by the National Health Security Office (NHSO), patients requiring proton therapy, eye plaque brachytherapy for ocular tumours, and robotic surgery will now have their transport costs covered. This includes door-to-door services from their homes to designated public transport services, without the need for advance payment.

Upon arrival, connecting transport will be provided to the treatment hospitals. The NHSO has established a coordination system linking referring hospitals with treatment facilities to ensure a seamless journey for patients and their relatives.

The deputy government spokeswoman, Sasikarn Wattanachan, stated that this new benefit marks a significant step forward in improving the quality of life for Thai people. She further explained that this measure is expected to reduce burdens for cancer patients, building confidence and genuinely improving their quality of life.

The transport service covers round-trip journeys throughout the treatment process, and is now operational. The Thai government is committed to developing and upgrading the national health security system to ensure equal access for all, and this initiative is expected to increase access to life-saving care for patients and their families.

Thailand, known for its quality healthcare, affordable prices, and government support, is actively promoting itself as a medical hub, offering comprehensive healthcare services, including advanced treatments. However, specific details about transport services for cancer patients would require more information. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, it is recommended to consult the official health department or related government websites in Thailand.
