Updated COVID-19 Travel Risk Areas and Quarantine Requirements

Hi there! Let's chat about some changes in travel advisories due to COVID-19.

The Lowdown

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), Vienna, Austria, and Budapest, Hungary are now designated as COVID-19 risk areas. The updated list was released on Wednesday evening. Other cities joining the risk area list include North Holland and South Holland in the Netherlands, Fribourg canton in Switzerland, Hauts-de-France and La Réunion in France, Brod-Posavina and Virovitica-Podravina in Croatia, and the Central Bohemian Region in the Czech Republic.

Romania has added Neamț County and removed Argeș and Dâmbovița Counties from the risk area list due to a decrease in infection numbers. Travelers entering Germany who have recently been in a risk area may be subject to quarantine requirements based on the regulations of the responsible federal states.

Worth Noting

As of the latest updates, there are no specific COVID-19 travel quarantine regulations mentioned for travelers entering Germany from newly designated risk areas. However, many travelers might not require a visa for stays under 90 days, but it's always a good idea to verify this with the German embassy or consulate.

Before your trip to Germany, it's recommended to ensure you're up-to-date with all recommended vaccinations, but there are no specific COVID-19 vaccination requirements for travel to Germany.

Safety-wise, though there is an ongoing threat of terrorism, travelers are advised to exercise normal precautions. Temporary border checks are also in place at German land borders until September 15, 2025.

To stay informed about the most accurate and up-to-date information on COVID-19 regulations and other travel advisories, we recommend contacting the nearest German embassy or consulate. Stay safe and happy travels!

Other cities, such as Vienna and Budapest, have been designated as COVID-19 risk areas, and travelers might need to consider health-and-wellness precautions, including potential quarantine requirements, before their journey to Germany.
