Gerena Declared Alert Area Due to West Nile Virus Presence

The Andalusian municipality of Gerena, located in the province of Seville, has been declared a Google Alert area due to the presence of West Nile virus (WNV) in local mosquito populations. The Ministry of Health of the Junta de Andalucía has stepped in to implement intensified control actions to prevent the spread of the virus.

The local administration will reinforce control and treatment actions targeting mosquito vectors during the alert period, which lasts until October 29, unless new cases are detected. Entomological, animal, and human surveillance will be intensified in the affected area. Communication actions will also be bolstered to inform citizens about protection actions against WNV.

Promotional actions will be activated in educational centers and residences in the surrounding areas. These efforts aim to educate the public about the virus and how to protect themselves. Gerena joins other Andalusian municipalities that have been or are currently in alert status due to WNV, including Pulpi, Benalup-Casas Viejas, Chiclana de la Frontera, Baeza, Guillena, and Huelva.

The municipality of Gerena is taking proactive steps to combat the West Nile virus. Intensified actions, public education, and enhanced surveillance are all part of the plan to ensure the safety of Gerena's residents and visitors alike.
