Fundraising initiative for gravely ailing breadwinner and his family
In a heart-wrenching turn of events, 33-year-old Tobi, a man known for his joyful spirit and strong individuality, was diagnosed with lung cancer on August 25, 2025. The tumour in his lung measures eight centimeters, a daunting challenge that has significantly changed Tobi's life and that of his family.
Tobi is married to Vanessa and they share a young son who is starting kindergarten. With Tobi's illness, fears about losing their home, dreams not coming true, and their son only knowing him through stories have become a harsh reality. Vanessa, a resilient woman, fights daily for her family amidst the challenges of childcare, doctor's appointments, worries, and tears.
The community has stepped up to support Tobi and his family in their time of need. A fundraising campaign has been initiated among friends, and generous contributions have been pouring in. Organisations such as "Team DoppelPASS e.V." and Karl Diederichs GmbH & Co. KG from Remscheid have donated 1,000 euros each to support the family.
The funds will be managed faithfully and passed directly to Tobi and Vanessa to cover their ongoing costs, including home expenses, living expenses, and illness-related costs. The aim is to create a financial cushion, ensuring that no one has to bear this burden alone.
In Germany, after six weeks of wage replacement, one only receives sick pay from the health insurance, which is about 66 percent of income. This pay is only available for a maximum of 78 weeks. After this period, the entitlement to sick pay ends completely. The donations received will bridge this gap, providing a much-needed relief to Tobi and Vanessa during this challenging time.
As a celebration of Tobi's strength and resilience, a celebration is planned for when Tobi's health permits. Until then, the community continues to rally around Tobi and his family, offering prayers, support, and love.
