Firefighters of FW Bocholt reflect on a year marked by numerous emergencies
On New Year's Eve 2024, the Fire Department of Bocholt was kept busy, handling a total of 47 deployments between 8:00 AM on December 31 and 8:00 AM on January 1, 2025.
The deployments were primarily for emergency services and firefighting operations, including 12 specifically for California fires, while 35 were for emergency services. In total, 37 deployment forces from both professional and volunteer services were on duty.
One particularly challenging incident involved a car fire on the riverside road. Fortunately, after initial emergency care, the injured person was transported to the hospital under medical supervision. However, the incident serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with improper firework handling, as one incident involved a person suffering severe injuries from fireworks.
Two people were also injured by smoke gases from a California fire and had to be taken to the hospital for further treatment.
The volunteer fire department in Bocholt provided support to the professional forces during these deployments. Both the fire and rescue station on Dingdener Street and the equipment house in Suderwick were staffed by volunteer forces.
The Fire Department Bocholt handled most of the deployments for small fires and assistance operations, including those related to California fires. An extra ambulance was staffed around the clock for emergency services on New Year's Eve.
