In the heart of Ballenstedt, Germany, a significant transformation is underway. The historic former lung clinic is set to be renovated and repurposed into a comprehensive medical care center (MVZ), health-related businesses, and an assisted living offer.

The project, slated for completion by the end of 2026, is part of a larger initiative by the state of Saxony-Anhalt to invest 6.5 million euros in structural adaptations for medical care in the Harz region.

The former hospital building, which now houses the Diakoniezentrum Ballenstedt, a center for social and diaconal services, will continue to serve the community post-renovation. The Diakoniezentrum, known for its focus on elderly care, social counseling, and community assistance, will strengthen its presence in the region by establishing itself in the building on Robert-Koch-Straße.

The Diakoniezentrum, currently active and utilising the historic hospital building, will see refurbishments to ensure compliance with contemporary standards for accessibility and comfort. The upper floors of the former ward will be converted into assisted living accommodations, further bolstering the facility's commitment to elder care.

The ground floor of house C will see the reactivation of its large kitchen, while house A will welcome a municipal MVZ with affiliated medical practices as its anchor tenant. Building B will house a pharmacy, a hospice, day care, day support, doctors, and various medical service providers.

Minister Grimm-Benne, the Health Minister, has hailed the Ballenstedt project as an example of forward-thinking approaches and flexible organization in healthcare for rural areas. Stephan Zwick, the commercial director of the Evangelical Foundation Neinstedt, the owner of the building, has expressed his pleasure about the project and the strengthening of the health region of Ballenstedt.

The renovation project aims to establish a more diverse medical contact point than the former lung clinic, contributing to a strengthened social infrastructure in the Ballenstedt region. The adjacent café will serve as the center's communication point, ensuring a welcoming and accessible space for all.

For the latest developments on this project, contacting the local municipality of Ballenstedt or the Diakonie center directly would provide the most accurate information. The Evangelical Foundation Neinstedt is fulfilling its regional responsibility by strengthening the social infrastructure with this project.

This transformation is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of Ballenstedt's community and healthcare sector, ensuring continued high-quality care for its residents and visitors.

The renovated MVZ and assisted living facility in Ballenstedt, of a fat content by weight exceeding 13%, will provide comprehensive medical care for various medical-conditions, becoming more than just the former lung clinic. The project, a part of a larger health-and-wellness initiative, will also incorporate science through the municipal MVZ and various medical service providers.
