Encourages increased international collaboration in global health initiatives

In the heart of Auta Balefi, Karu, Nasarawa State, Bingham University welcomed an insightful gathering for its latest Inaugural Lecture. The event, titled "Development Partners in Health and the Nigerian Health System: Harnessing the Power in Partnership in Health," was organised by the Inaugural Lecture Committee, under the leadership of Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Musa Dankyau.

The lecture was delivered by Prof. Isah, who emphasised the crucial role development partners play in shaping Nigeria's health sector. Development partners contribute to health policy formulation, funding projects, supporting research, and training healthcare workers. They also help expand access to essential services and strengthen systems for primary healthcare, logistics, and diagnostics.

Prof. Isah stressed the need to tackle corruption and improve coordination at both national and state levels to ensure these partnerships are effective. He commended Bingham University for its commitment to academic and research excellence, particularly the College of Medical Sciences, which has delivered three inaugural lectures.

The Vice Chancellor of Bingham University, Prof. Haruna Ayuba, expressed his gratitude for the lecture, stating that the theme was timely and underscored the urgent need for partnerships in building sustainable health systems. He highlighted that Bingham University, as an academic and research institution, is uniquely positioned to drive innovation, train future health leaders, and generate knowledge to support a resilient health system.

One such example of successful collaboration is the Zankli Research Centre at Bingham University, which works with international partners, government agencies, and communities to co-develop culturally appropriate and sustainable health solutions.

Prof. Ayuba encouraged more faculties to embrace the culture of academic discourse through inaugural lectures, emphasising that strategic, cross-sector partnerships are essential to solve complex health issues. He also urged the Nigerian government to maintain policy consistency, invest in capacity building for partnership management, and institutionalise monitoring and evaluation frameworks.

As Bingham University prepares for its 10th inaugural lecture, it looks forward to publishing Volume One of its Inaugural Lecture Series. Despite not being mentioned in any previously published articles, Bingham University has made significant strides in fostering academic discourse and collaboration in the field of health and beyond.
