Redevelopment of King Edward VII Hospital into a Care Home
The King Edward VII Hospital, a landmark that has been dormant for several years, is set to undergo a significant transformation. The States, in partnership with CI Healthcare, have embarked on a £5m private redevelopment project that will see the hospital being redeveloped into a care home.
The original hospital building on Rue de la Perruque is likely to be demolished, as it no longer meets modern standards. The demolished building, which has been deemed to have no architectural merit, will make way for a new care home, scheduled for completion in 2027.
The demolition will also pave the way for a larger parking area and new access for the future care home. A roadside building on the site, which was part of the original hospital, will also be demolished as part of the redevelopment plan.
Planning permission has already been granted for the demolition, and the project has moved forward. However, additional planning permissions will be necessary for other aspects of the project. The redeveloped care home will have 33 beds and a new parking area that will accommodate 36 cars and four disabled bays.
There is also a possibility that the site may be incorporated into an expanded development zone called the L'Aumone Local Centre, subject to ongoing reviews of the island's planning laws. This could potentially open up more opportunities for future developments in the area.
