Dementia-Friendly Church Service Marks World Alzheimer's Day in Kaufbeuren
A dementia-sensitive church service was held at the Holy Trinity Church in Kaufbeuren on World Alzheimer's Day. The event aimed to bring the often-invisible illness into focus and provide support for those affected and their families.
The service was co-designed by Karin Gröger, a community worker from the Catholic parish, and Reinhold Netz. They created a welcoming and respectful atmosphere using familiar hymns and prayers, and offered a personal blessing to all visitors. The global theme of the event, 'Dementia - Being Human and Staying Human', emphasized the importance of respect, support, and participation for people with dementia.
The event was supported by the Kaufbeuren Care Network and the Senior Citizens' Office. These organisations highlighted that the person is central, not the illness. Initiatives like this service encourage open and courageous interaction, strengthening those affected and their relatives.
