The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) match between Racing Louisville and the Seattle Reign was suspended following a medical emergency involving Racing Louisville midfielder Savannah DeMelo.

The game, which was scoreless at the time, was called off at Seattle's Lumen Field late in the first half. The incident prompted players from both teams to visibly show their concern, and the television cameras cut away from the scene on the field, with the match going to halftime early.

The league swiftly responded, stating that its first priority was DeMelo's health and safety, and they were in close communication with Racing Louisville. The NWSL also confirmed that it remains committed to ensuring the highest standards of medical care and emergency response at every match.

Racing Louisville later announced that DeMelo was stable and alert, and she was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. The NWSL rules for 2025 state that the league will evaluate whether delay or postponement is necessary in case of emergencies.

Savannah DeMelo, the fourth pick in the 2022 NWSL Draft, has been a key player for Racing Louisville, appearing in 61 games over three seasons and scoring 14 goals. She was also a part of the U.S. national team roster for the 2023 Women's World Cup.

The remainder of the game between Racing Louisville and the Seattle Reign will be played at a later date, picked up where it left off. An announcement regarding the rescheduled match is expected to be made soon, with both teams agreeing on a mutually convenient date.

Reign players emerged a short time later to applaud their fans as an announcement was made that the match was abandoned. The NWSL, the teams, and fans alike will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Savannah DeMelo.
