Mrs. X, a 39-year-old woman, filed a lawsuit against Annecy Body and its insurer Axa France IARD in 2017, alleging that she contracted genital psoriasis following a bikini wax at Annecy Body on July 5, 2017.

The lawsuit was based on the expert's conclusion that the location of the burns from the wax and the simultaneous occurrence and persistence of the skin condition in the same area suggested a direct relationship between the waxing act and the onset of Mrs. X's psoriasis. However, another expert appointed by the court found it challenging to definitively determine the aesthetic act's responsibility in the onset of Mrs. X's psoriasis.

Mrs. X complained of burns from the wax, which was heated to an excessive temperature. She visited her GP several times between July and October 2017 for skin lesions in the groin and pubic area. On July 16, 2017, she was prescribed antibiotics by the emergency room at Annecy General Clinic. Her gynecologist ordered tests for her on July 18, 2017. Mrs. X was eventually diagnosed with genital psoriasis following a biopsy.

The burns from the wax were located in the area where the disputed waxing had been performed. The couple cited a long delay between Mrs. X's treatment and her visits to the clinic and the dermatologist.

Annecy Body and Axa France IARD denied any causal link between the treatment and Mrs. X's psoriasis. Numerous statements presented during the proceedings attributed various negative effects to Mrs. X's waxing session, including physical suffering and relationship problems.

Mrs. X's husband blamed "the major problems that arose in their relationship" on the waxing session, as Mrs. X was unable to have sexual relations until September 2018. Numerous statements presented during the proceedings attributed Mrs. X's physical suffering to her waxing session.

The expert's conclusion about the potential link between the waxing and Mrs. X's psoriasis was contradictory. Despite this, the case remains significant as it highlights the potential risks associated with aesthetic treatments and the importance of proper training and adherence to safety guidelines.

Science played a crucial role in the expert's analysis of Mrs. X's case, as they evaluated the potential link between the bikini wax and her genital psoriasis. The health-and-wellness aspect was also significant, as the skin-care procedure performed at Annecy Body allegedly led to Mrs. X's skin condition and subsequent physical suffering.
