Climate demonstration titled 'Heroes for Future' commences in the city of Aschaffenburg
In a significant step towards raising awareness about climate change and its impact on health, the Bavarian Environmental Agency (Bayerisches Landesamt für Umwelt) has announced the launch of the "Heroes for the Future" Climate Rally. This free event, open to all Bavarian cities and municipalities in 2025, is part of the ZebRA research project developed by the LGL (Bavarian Health and Food Safety Authority).
The Climate Rally, funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Health, Care, and Prevention, aims to educate children, families, and other community members about the health risks associated with climate factors. It offers an interactive and engaging experience through stations such as "Drinking in the Heat" and "Cooling with Trees."
Health Minister Judith Gerlach emphasised the importance of the Climate Rally, stating, "The Climate Rally aims to show children and families how climate change affects them and how they can protect their health." Prof. Dr. med. Caroline Herr, from the LGL, added, "The ZebRA project has helped create products that engage citizens of all ages, and we are particularly proud of the Climate Rally for children, youth, and their families."
The Climate Rally is a barrier-free, low-traffic route suitable for a roughly one-hour family outing, starting at the Schlossplatz and ending at the Großmutterwiese. The event also introduces the Healthy CliMATE app, a platform for accessing the innovative educational offering provided by the Climate Rally.
The city of Aschaffenburg launched the Climate Rally on Wednesday, with Mayor Eric Leiderer considering it an excellent complement to the city's climate tours. He stated, "The Climate Rally provides a practical and engaging way for our community to learn about the impact of climate change on their health and what actions they can take to protect themselves."
