Sheridan Memorial Hospital is currently constructing a new Behavioral Health and Crisis Stabilization Unit, with a budget exceeding $8.1 million, aimed at improving mental health care access and emergency services for the region. The unit is expected to open in late 2026 [1][2][3].

This development is part of the wider Growing for You – Behavioral Health & Emergency Medicine Campaign, an initiative that seeks to expand mental health services and emergency care for patients and families across the Sheridan region. The campaign has received strong support from community fundraising efforts, including a significant $45,000 matching campaign that unlocked critical funds for the project during mid-2025 [3].

The new unit, scheduled to start caring for patients in late 2026 or early 2027, will provide enhanced behavioral health services and crisis stabilization capabilities. Its focus is to address the urgent mental health needs in Wyoming, ensuring patients have timely access to specialized care during mental health emergencies [1][2][3].

The crisis area within the unit will provide care in a comfortable and suitable setting. The unit will also recruit and hire specialized psychiatric care staff, feature an urgent care and outpatient services for mental health, and tailor care to the individual's needs and circumstances [1][3].

Moreover, the new unit is designed to reduce the number of community members needing to leave for care. It also aims to increase community education on mental health, helping to destigmatize these issues and promote better understanding [1][3].

This development aligns with the hospital’s commitment to increasing access to comprehensive mental health care in Wyoming’s rural communities. The new Behavioral Health and Crisis Stabilization Unit is a significant step forward in providing specialized mental health care to those who need it most.
