Border Transits Warn of Dangerous Bacteria Found in Bavarian Coastal Waters

The popular summer bathing spot, Rothsee in Zusmarshausen, has been affected by a bathing ban due to a risk of health hazard for bathers. The ban is a result of "massive exceedances" of fecal coliforms during a routine water quality inspection.

District Administrator (Landrat) of the Augsburg district, Martin Sailer, ordered the closure of the Rothsee due to health concerns related to contaminated water with fecal bacteria. The bathing ban was announced by the district and state health ministry.

The limit values for E. coli bacteria and enterococci have been exceeded several times, posing a potential risk of illnesses such as diarrhea and wound infections for bathing guests. Symptoms of illness should be closely monitored, and anyone showing symptoms is advised to contact their family doctor immediately.

Ignoring the bathing ban could still result in illness for individuals who have recently been swimming in the lake. The safety and health of citizens are the top priority for Martin Sailer, who emphasizes the importance of adhering to the ban.

The Rothsee, located in the Augsburg district (Swabia), is currently under a bathing ban. Unfortunately, the duration of the closure remains uncertain, as no further updates have been provided regarding potential reopening dates.

The closure comes at an unfortunate time as temperatures in Bavaria are expected to reach nearly 30 degrees Celsius this weekend. Visitors are asked to understand the situation and closely monitor it on site.

Martin Sailer urges everyone to prioritize their health and safety, and to respect the bathing ban for the sake of their well-being and the well-being of others. The bathing ban at the Rothsee continues to be enforced.
