Birmingham Airport in the UK temporarily halts its runway operation following an unexpected landing incident referred to as an emergency landing.

A small Beech B200 Super King Air aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing at Birmingham Airport on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at around 13:40 local time (12:40 GMT). The incident caused the temporary closure of the runway, leading to significant flight disruptions.

The plane had taken off at 12:11 local time, bound for Belfast, but was forced to return due to landing gear problems. Upon touchdown, the main undercarriage collapsed, leading to the emergency landing.

Three people from the aircraft were treated at the scene, with one reported to have minor injuries. The West Midlands Ambulance Service and the police were among the emergency crews that responded promptly. The airport suspended all check-in and security screening during the incident and temporarily halted departures and arrivals. Some flights were diverted to other airports, while others were delayed until around 18:00.

The airport confirmed that all passengers were discharged after treatment. However, disruptions persisted into the following day with grounded and delayed flights. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has launched a multi-disciplinary investigation involving experts in aircraft operations, engineering, and data analysis to determine the cause of the incident.

Passengers have been advised to check with their airlines for updated flight information throughout the incident. The airport has promised to provide further updates as they become available. No additional information about the condition of the person who sustained minor injuries has been disclosed.

The runway reopened later the same day after emergency and airport teams completed safety protocols. Despite the disruptions, the airport remains committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all passengers and staff.
