3 Med Students Hospitalized After 'Hazing' Event in France
Three second-year medical students from the Rangueil faculty in Toulouse were hospitalized after an integration event in the forest of Bouconne. The event, which involved an orienteering race in underwear, has led to a complaint of hazing and endangerment of others by the dean of the faculty. The Toulouse prosecutor's office has opened an investigation.
The integration event, attended by 55 students, was reported to the gendarmerie by a motorist who saw a student tied to a tree with adhesive tape and others poorly dressed and drunk. The three hospitalized students are not in danger. Hazing is a crime in France, punishable by six months in prison and a fine of 7,500 euros. This is not the first hazing incident at Toulouse University Hospital. In 2018, nursing students were involved in a major hazing incident.
The Rangueil faculty dean has filed a complaint, and the Toulouse prosecutor's office has opened an investigation to identify the organizers of the event. The students' safety and well-being are the priority, and the university is cooperating with the authorities to ensure this.
