2025 Drug Alerts: Key Pharmaceutical Recalls and Notifications

The Department of Health has issued several drug alerts and recalls throughout 2025. This article outlines the key pharmaceutical alerts and recalls that have been announced.

In March, a Class 2 recall was issued for Tesco Health Dry Cough Relief 200ml, Asda Strong Dry Tickly Cough 200ml, and Almus Dry Cough Relief 200ml, all manufactured by Bell, Sons & Co (Druggists) Ltd trading as Bells Healthcare (PHC-03-2025).

In May, CNX Therapeutics Limited recalled Nitrofurantoin CNX Therapeutics -Release capsules due to a Class 2 medicines recall (PHC-05-2025). Meanwhile, Bristol Laboratories Limited faced two Class 2 recalls in January and April for Rabeprazole sodium 10mg gastro-resistant tablets and Amlodipine Bristol Lab 2.5 mg Tablets, respectively (PHC-01-2025 and PHC-04-2025).

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Europe B.V. also recalled Pemetrexed SUN 10 mg ml solution for infusion (Infusion bag) in September due to a Class 2 alert (PHC-09-2025). Additionally, Aspar Pharmaceuticals Limited recalled Boots Paracetamol 500 mg tablets in October (PHC-10-2025).

In June, Teva UK Limited issued a Class 4 caution in use for Losartan Potassium 50mg Hard Capsules 15mg (PHC-06-2025). Jubilant Pharmaceuticals NV faced two Class 4 notifications in January and November for Irbesartan 150 mg and 300 mg film-coated tablets, and Azith, respectively (PHC-02-2025 and PHC-11-2025).

Lastly, a Class 3 medicines recall was announced in July for Uni Health Distribution Savio - release Tablets (PHC-07-2025), and in August for Azacitidine 100 mg vial and 150 mg vial Powder for Suspension for Injection (PHC-08-2025).

Throughout 2025, various pharmaceutical companies have faced recalls and notifications for their products. Consumers are advised to check their medications and consult healthcare professionals if they have any concerns. The Department of Health continues to monitor and address pharmaceutical safety issues.
